A lesson In Perspective

A Lesson in Perspective

I learned something in high school from then-President Ronald Reagan that has helped me become more emotionally resilient over the years.

After surgery to remove a tumor, he was asked how he was coping with having cancer.

He replied: “I don’t have cancer. Something inside of me had cancer—and they removed it.”

Wow.

Reframing the Hard Days

Someone said to me recently: “You’ve been through so much, and yet you seem content.”

Here’s how I look at it:

I had a very bad day on February 9, 2015. But I don’t judge the whole year by that one day.

In fact, 90%+ of my days have been winners.

Something terrible happened on that day. But when I remove it—and maybe a few other hard days—from the bigger picture…

I don’t have “cancer,” so to speak.

What Remains

What I do have is:

My health My family My faith

And because of that… I am very blessed.

Final Thought

As my friend Theresa Callahan says:

“Spoiler alert—it’s going to be OK.”

God bless each of us. Life is good.
